ABOUT LOGIFRIO

Logifrio is the leading operator of temperature-controlled logistics services in Spain and Portugal. The company stores, handles, and distributes food products at three temperatures (refrigerated, frozen, and ambient). Over more than three decades in business, Logifrio has been at the forefront of the multi-temperature transport sector thanks to a solid business strategy. They now have more than 30 sites on the Iberian Peninsula and Spanish islands with a capacity exceeding 280,000 m³ of cold storage and covering over 20,000 distribution points.

SETTING UP OPERATIONS FOR A NEW LINE OF BUSINESS

Logifrio launched a new line of business through which they offer their clients in the Food & Catering Services industry the integral service of direct purchasing, storage, and distribution of merchandise through a single platform.

In order to offer the best version of this service, Logifrio wanted to implement new digital tools and procedures.

It was identified that Logifrio needed the following systems:

  • SAP as a supply and merchandise management system capable of managing all the commercial activity related to the new line of business
  • A B2B web portal for order entry and communication with customers
  • A customer service incident support tool (i.e. CRM) for end customer users

Logifrio requested the services of Zoi for the development of this project; both in the technical aspect, due to Zoi’s deep SAP and AWS knowledge, and the functional definition of the organization including the activities to be carried out by the new Logifrio Purchasing team.

Additionally, Logifrio requested that both the configuration of the Zoi work team and the other costs associated with the project occur in a flexible manner so that Logifrio could interrupt the project at any time without incurring more costs than those that had already been produced up to that point, and without having an impact on their information systems.

USING AWS TO HOST THE NEW LOGIFRIO BUSINESS OPERATIONS

The final goal of the project was to provide Logifrio with the computer systems and working procedures necessary to start purchasing and stock management activities for their new business channel. To accomplish the challenges addressed above, Zoi proposed to build the solution using AWS since this would suit all of their challenges and satisfy the flexible cost implementation requirement set by the customer. The AWS Cloud ticked additional boxes including being easily scalable, faster, and more cost-effective than on-premise systems.

BUILDING A HOLISTIC SOLUTION THAT IS FIT FOR THE FUTURE

Creating the new business platform for Logifrio had 4 main components:

INFRASTRUCTURE

Since the project could be interrupted at any time, infrastructure costs had to be as flexible as possible. To satisfy this requirement, the creation of development, quality, and production systems was done using an AWS pay-per-use server.

SAP ERP

For the management of the entire commercial circuit necessary for the development of the purchasing activity, SAP was selected as the management system due to its wide-ranging functional scope and capacity to cover both current and future business needs.

Likewise, the system can be used at a later stage to replace some of Logifrio’s other management systems, such as the financial or personnel management systems.

The scope of the implementation of the SAP system included the functional definition of the business processes and their integration with Logifrio’s current systems.

B2B PORTAL

The first version of the B2B portal consisted of creating orders and displaying the order status. The platform was designed so new functionalities could be easily added in the future, e.g. stock, invoice, master data management, etc.

CRM

The scope foreseen for the first version of the CRM system consisted of providing the customer support team with a tool capable of giving a quick and wide-ranging view of the customer’s situation. The objective was for the support team to meet customer requirements as diligently as possible.
